In the first few days of office, President Biden is getting things up and running. During the Obama administration, the idea to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill was presented but during Trump’s presidency the motion to move forward with the change came to a halt. Trump suggested that instead of replacing Jackson on the 20, Harriet go on a $2 note. Last year, Trump’s administration Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that the new $20 bill would not be released until the end of the 2020 decade.

In June 2019, the Treasury said it would conduct an investigation into the circumstances leading to a delay in the production of a new $20 note.

In a White House briefing, Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced the process to put Tubman on the $20 note countiunes. “It’s important that our money reflects the history and diversity of our country.”

Tubman will become the first Black person on the face of American paper currency and the first woman in generations; Martha Washington appeared on a $1 bill in the 1890s, and Pocahontas was in a group picture on the $20 bill in the 1860s, according to Reuters.

After years of delays, Harriet Tubman may soon grace the front of the $20 bill.
