Pastor Mike Todd continued into the fifth week of the current series The Upgrade. This series is focused around understanding the Holy Spirit. This week’s sermon shed light on Heavenly language, also known as speaking in tongues. This is a topic that is not often discussed which can lead to misunderstanding, but Pastor Todd works to change the narrative.

Note 1: The enemy only tries to pervert what brings you power

Note 2: Speaking in tongues should be a desire not a demand

Note 3: God never meant for tongues to be a burden, He meant for it to be a blessing

Note 4: Praying in tongues is scriptural

Scripture: For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries (1 Corinthians 14:2)

Note 5: Gift of tongues: To Man-Needs interpretation

Note 6: Grace of tongues: To God- Prayer language

Scripture: For if I pray in tongues, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion, then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. (1 Corinthians 14:14-17)

Note 7: I will pray in the Spirit, I will pray in English

Scripture: I thank God I speak with tongues more than you all (1 Corinthians 14:18)

Note 8: Praying in tongues is a benefit

Scripture: He who speaks in tongues edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church (1 Corinthians 14:4)

Note 9: Praying in tongues build the person (You)

Scripture: But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20)

Scripture: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. (Ephesians 6: 17-18)

Note 10: Praying in tongues is a choice

Scripture: I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. (1 Corinthian 14:5)

Scripture: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)

Note 11: We don’t know what to pray but the spirit never misses

Note 12: Your heavenly language is the language of humility

The series will continue next week to further the establishing a relationship with the Holy Spirit. As always watch the sermon for yourself to see what speaks to you.
