Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks and others to star in ‘The Color Purple’ musical film

Casting for the upcoming musical film of The Color Purple has been announced, starring singer Fantasia Barrino and actress Danielle Brooks.
The original Broadway production of the 2007 musical casted Barrino as “Celie” and Orange Is The New Black star Brooks as “Sofia” after earning a Tony award nomination for her role as “sofia” back in the 2015 Broadway revival.
The remaining cast members will include Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Halle Bailey as Nettie, H.E.R. as Squeak, Corey Hawkins as Harpo and Colman Domingo as Mister.
The film is scheduled to be released in 2023. Blitz Bazawule will direct the film with the script written by Marcus Gardley.
