Pastor Michael Todd’s second sermon in his new series “Mo’Money, Mo’ Purpose” was full of surprises. The sermon focused on the motive behind money and a person’s heart. In the spirit of giving and the desire for everyone to live a blessed life, Transformation Nation received free access to Dave Ramsey’s financial program, which retails normally for $129. Pastor Todd also gifted a church member the Versace sneakers off his own feet.

In addition to the free resource the sermon touched on valuable lessons on money and motives. As always watch the sermon for yourself to see what stands out to you, below are a few notes.

Notes

  1. Giving is all about the heart
  2. Deal with a selfish heart
  3. Deal with a grieving heart
  4. Selfishness attacks us before we give, grief attacks us after we give
  5. Develop a generous heart
  6. Develop a grateful heart
  7. It doesn’t matter how much money you have if your heart is bankrupt

Scriptures

Proverbs 4:23

Above all else, guard your heart, or everything you do flows from it.

Matthew 7:1-2

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and

with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:37-38

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Matthew 6:21

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Deuteronomy 15: 10

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Deuteronomy 15: 7-8

If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.

Deuteronomy 15:9

Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: “The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near,” so that you do not show ill will toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin.

Deuteronomy 15:15

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today.

Pastor Todd has also challenged the congregation to perform random acts of kindness throughout the week. Be sure to claim your spot with Dave Ramsey’s financial program and learn to save and manage your money.
