Pastor Michael Todd ends the “Cuffing Season” series after nine weeks of powerful messages. The final sermon discussed the importance of rest and how God demonstrated it in Genesis after the creation of the world He rested. Pastor Todd announced that he will be entering his sabbatical and will return to the pulpit in the fall. While he is away other preachers will deliver God given message until his return.

As always listen for yourself and see what stands out, below are a few notes.

Notes

  1. Culture is constant
  2. Kingdom is consistent
  3. Rest is not a luxury, it is necessary
  4. Rest is a weapon
  5. Rest is a gift of God’s goodness –
  6. Lie: performance = approval & praise
  7. Truth: position = approval & praise
  8. Rest is God’s will
  9. Rest is a command
  10. Constant activity leads to captivity
  11. Rest takes Crazy Faith

Scriptures:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. (Genesis 2:1-3)

But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. (Exodus 20:10)

For six years you are to sow your fields and harvest the crops, 11 but during the seventh year let the land lie unplowed and unused. Then the poor among your people may get food from it, and the wild animals may eat what is left. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove. (Exodus 23:10-11)

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[a] just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)
