It was bound to happen. The NBA’s “Ironman” isn’t fully immune to injury! NBA superstar Lebron James has been ruled “out indefinitely” after suffering an ankle injury against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.

In the game’s second quarter, Atlanta Hawk forward Solomon Hill dove for a loose ball in James’ vicinity, colliding with James’ leg and causing his right ankle to twist inward. After a few minutes of writing in pain, Lebron would later hit a three-pointer before permanently exiting the game to get checked out.

Initially, the King’s X-Ray results came back negative, but his MRI test later revealed a high-ankle sprain. On Monday, The Athletic’s Sham Charania reported that he is expected to miss weeks of gameplay. Lebron tweeted his reaction to the injury after the game:

Unsurprisingly, controversy has surrounded the play that caused the injury. Laker players, as well as fans online, have publicly criticized Solomon HIll for what they’ve deemed a dirty play on his part.

Lakers forward Montrezl Harris gave particularly strong comments to reporters after the game.

“We don’t feel like it was one of those basketball-type plays. He had to go through his legs to get the ball.”

In response to the public backlash, Solomon Hill tweeted this after the game:

The Lakers face a tough road ahead now with their two leading scorers, Lebron James and Anthony Davis, out due to injury.

Davis, out with a calf strain, is not expected back for at least another 3 weeks. The team is currently 28-15 and 3rd in the western conference.
