Have you ever been getting ready to go somewhere and realized you were out of your favorite beauty product? It is frustrating and with no time to go to the store you end up going without. That very scenario inspired co-founders Ian Grant II and Michael James to create WaySlay.

WaySlay is a unique delivery service for people of color, by people of color. The service mission is to deliver beauty products in a timely fashion as quick as 20 minutes to customers. They describe their business model as the “Uber Eats of beauty supplies.”

The company recognized a problem and sought out to fix it while assisting small businesses. Many beauty supply stores are owned by entrepreneurs and not under a large corporation. However, during the pandemic large corporations with more resources were able to convert in-store sales to online sales. That wasn’t the case with small beauty stores. WaySlay has partnered with many local small businesses to help them scale and reach more consumers while directing business their way through their app. In an interview with Duquesne Duke, co-founder James stated “It’s very important to invest in the Black community. Looking at WaySlay itself, the fact that something like this didn’t exist before we created it … It’s things like this where you get to invest in the community. That’s something we’re trying to help fulfill, but also working with small businesses, we’re trying to build them up and keep the playing field level.”

WaySlay is a new and upcoming company that currently serves Miami and Pittsburgh areas. They have proven this is a need, for college students, mothers, and even cancer patients. In their early days one of the co-founders was able to hand deliver a wig to a woman going through chemotherapy.

The delivery service hopes to expand in the future to large cites such as New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and more. So, the next time your run out of your favorite product, let WaySlay save the day. Be sure to check them out of you are in Miami or Pittsburgh, and be on the lookout when they come to a city near you.
