Kendrick Johnson’s second investigation closes, ruling his death as ‘accidental’

The second investigation into the 2013 death of Kendrick Johnson closed on January 26th, 2022 ruling his death as “accidental” and no criminal charges filed.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office reopened the case back in March due to discrepancy and cover-up allegations.
On January 26th, Sheriff Ashley Paulk concluded in a 16 page document that evidence ” (does) not produce anything to prove any criminal act by anyone that would have resulted in the death of Kendrick Johnson.”
According to local station WTXL, the Johnson family did not agree with the final ruling. Johnson’s father, Kenneth Johnson Sr. held a press conference outside of Lowndes’ Sheriff office, alleging the discrepancies throughout his son’s investigation.
“Do not believe anything that this sheriff’s department tells you. I will fight as long as I have to, to uncover what happened to Kendrick Johnson,” Johnson said, according to CNN.
Kendrick Johnson, 17, was a sophomore at Lowndes County High School in Valdosta, Ga. Allegedly, his body was found in a wrestling gym mat on Jan.11, 2013, leading to the first investigation that ruled him dying from asphyxiation in an attempt to retrieve his shoe sneakers from them accidentally slipping into the center of the mat.
‘Finding Kendrick Johnson’ a documentary on this case, attracted national attention in hopes of giving the family answers and bringing forth justice. Since the recent ruling the sheriff has come forth with his own money of $500,000 to anyone that can provide any evidence or insight to what happened to Kendrick Johnson.
