Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been nominated by President Joe Biden to serve in the elite group of chair holders in the Supreme Court. She will be replacing retiring Supreme Court Justice, Stephen Breyer.

Jackson serving on the Supreme Court would be historical; she would be the first Black woman to serve on the prestigious group of judicial representation.

Jackson was appointed by former President Barack Obama to the United States district court for the District of Columbia. In 2021, Biden elevated Jackson to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

The NAACP is delighted with the nomination of Jackson.

“This is a historic moment for our nation and our community in particular. President Biden has met this moment with an extraordinarily qualified nominee, who has stellar credentials and an impeccable background,” said Derrick Johnson, NAACP president and CEO, in NAACP’s press release.

Jackson has clerked for three federal judges. Throughout her career she has worked consciously to ensure equality within the criminal legal system.
