Pride Month is in full effect and the LGBTQ community has reached a new milestone.

Justine Lindsay announced via Instagram that she made the Carolina Panther’s Top Cats cheer squad, making her the first openly transgender NFL cheerleader.

Speaking proudly about it in her Instagram caption, Lindsay said, “Cats Out the Bag you are looking at the newest member of the Carolina Panthers TopCats Cheerleader’s @topcats as the first Transgender female.”

When describing this momentous moment on her Instagram, she thanked all of her supporters including her coach, Chandalae Nouette.

Coach Nouette spoke with BuzzFeed News in regards to what made her give Lindsay a spot on the team, “My goal is to create a team of individuals that are absolute fire on the field but are incredible human beings in the locker room, good friends, good people, and at the end of the day, you have to walk through the door first to get to that spot.”

This historic moment could set off a domino effect in the NFL and change the landscape of NFL cheerleaders for years to come.
