University of Michigan has won their first-ever NCAA Gymnastics Championship

On April 17, the University of Michigan beat out the three other schools that made it to the finals. University of Oklahoma (second), University of Utah (third), and University of Florida (fourth) with a score of 198.2500. It is the first national team title for them in program history.

Gymnastics is a sport where there aren’t many Black young girls, they often come ever so often. But when they do best believe there will be Black excellence and Black girl magic including culture and authenticity.

Although some of the girls didn’t make it to the championship, Lynnzee Brown, Nia Dennis, Margzetta Frazier, Kiya Johnson, Chase Campbell, Sekai Wright, and many more were thriving along the way to the championship and some showed up and showed out at the NCAA National Championships.

Lynnzee Brown scored a perfect 10 for her Bar Routine representing University of Denver and sending them to the Big 12 Championship.

Margzetta Frazier competed in the Uneven Bars and floor routine, closing out her season with an amazing dismount and Janet Jackson inspired routine. Chae Campbell had a full-on dance party with the support of teammates as she went for the All-Around title. Chae went on to earn a career-high on Balance Beam!

Nia Dennis closed out her gymnastics career with her “The Culture” performance, the hardest vault. Her routine paid tribute to Beyonce’s Homecoming documentary in the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships competition. Her journey has been nothing but amazing and we hope to see more from her.

Kiya Johnson had a beautiful and powerful floor performance that earned her a perfect score.

It’s great to see these beautiful queens giving birth to the new generation of leaders! They are such an inspiration in what was once a sport they never really saw us in!
