Investigators Kevin Cronin and Angel Llanos of the Bridgeport Police Department in Connecticut are on administrative leave after mishandling Lauren Smith-Fields’ case and may face disciplinary actions from the police department’s internal affairs office.

The mayor of Bridgeport, Joseph Ganim expressed his frustration with the officers, stating: “I want you to know that I am extremely disappointed with the leadership of the Bridgeport Police Department and find actions taken up to this point unacceptable. After reviewing the matters even more closely and in the absence of the Police Chief, I have directed Deputy Chief Baraja to immediately be put on administrative leave the two officers who are the subject of a Bridgeport Police Office of Internal Affairs (OIA) Investigation and disciplinary action for lack of sensitivity to the public and failure to follow police policy in the handling of these two matters.”

Apparently both detectives were assigned to the cases of Twenty-three year-old Lauren Smith-Fields who was found dead in her Bridgeport, CT apartment shortly after meeting a man from the dating app Bumble and Brenda Lee Rawls, 53, was also found dead on December 12. Both women’s families claim they learned of the deaths through a landlord and a neighbor instead of the Police Department.

The two detectives will also be investigated for how they handled the case of Rawls.

A medical examiner ruled Smith-Fields’ death as accidental and caused by “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine and alcohol.”

Mayor Ganim said, “Death notifications should be done in a manner that illustrates dignity for the deceased and respect and compassion for the family.”

The family plans to sue the mayor, police chief and several detectives, alleging the department has not properly investigated Smith-Fields’ death and has violated their civil rights.

Family, celebrities, and those who are seeking justice continue to demand answers for Lauren Smith-Fields by any means.
