A huge achievement in the world of entertainment for the transgender community came Thursday as it was announced that actors Laverne Cox and Rain Valdez have made history as the first two openly transgender people to be recognized in any acting category at this year’s Emmy Awards show.

For those of you who may prefer reading books over watching TV, Cox can be seen playing the role of Sophia Burset in the popular Netflix  show “Orange Is The New Black” which has now given her four Emmy nominations.

Cox retweeted a quote from her interview with Gold Derby: “Sophia changed my life and this will be the last Emmy nomination for ‘Orange Is The New Black,’ so I don’t take that lightly.”

Joining in on the conversation, Valdez who received a nomination for her web series, ‘Razor Tongue’ -who by the way- created, wrote, and produced the show spoke with Cox on the importance of representation in Hollywood.

“I know you worked so hard and you literally trailblazer,” said Valdez. “I feel like this opened up [doors] for me because you’ve been out there.”

The 72nd prime time Emmy Awards show will be televised September 20th.
