The world’s wealthiest man, Jeff Bezos is utilizing his wealthy status to open Montessori inspired preschools for low income families and help those in need. Bezos announced on Instagram that he is opening doors for in person learning at one of  Bezos’ Academy preschools on October 19th.

The first preschool will be located in Des Moines, Washington where the academy will be the first to many other schools.

The Montessori style of learning is for students to in a way guide their own learning by hands-on and collaborative work ethics. Bezos wants the child to be a ‘customer’ rather than be a ‘seller’.

Bezos’ current and future schools are built around low income areas that have exponential local organizations and businesses that understands their community.

The schools are being supported through Bezos’ nonprofit organization, Bezos Academy, which is overseen by Day 1 Academies Fund. Bezos launched Day 1 Academies Fund with the goal to obtain preschools and help low income families.

The tuition-free schools will operate year-round during the weekdays for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

The students attending the preschool, will receive free and reduced-cost meal programs and ‘gaps’ in access to licensed childcare providers, according to Day 1 Academies Fund.
