Former Cincinnati Reds announcer Thom Brennaman has decided to announce his resignation from his FOX Sports Ohio position on Friday. Last month, Brennaman was caught using a homophobic slur during the Reds-Royals game.

In a statement, Brennaman announced his resignation to Evan Millward.

“My family and I decided that I am going to step away from my role as the television voice of the Cincinnati Reds, I would like to thank the Reds, Reds fans and the LGBTQ Community for the incredible support and grace they have shown my family and me,” Brennaman said.

The CEO of Cincinnati Reds Bob Castellini released a statement and referred to Brennaman as a “fantastic talent and a good man.”

During a commercial, the comment was made as a doubleheader between the Reds and Kansas City Royals playing in Kansas City Missouri.

There is no clear or consistent meaning on why the comment was made.

Immediately after saying the derogatory word Brennaman stated,

“I don’t know if I’m going to be putting on this headset again… for everyone I’ve offended here tonight, I can’t begin to tell you how deeply sorry I am.”

Brennman has been apart of the Reds franchise since 2006. He is the son of former Cincinnati Reds radio sportscaster Marty Brennaman.
