Last Sunday Pastor Mike Todd continued with his “Forgiveness University” themed series and touched on a topic that is imperative to mastering the art of forgiveness; forgiving your father.

Continuing with the “Father Unaware” topic, Todd spoke on how many fathers are unaware of the hurt, generational curses, and harmful traits they pass down to their children.

Father = Your Image

He pointed out that children are the spitting image of their father.

“What is not transformed is transferred,” said Todd.

If you do not understand what this means, think about it this way. If your father has not dealt with his abuse of alcohol or his inability to love; it affects you.

For example, if your father was never shown the correct way to love and has never dealt with it, how is he able to properly show you, love?

This then affects how you show other people love, kindness, or compassion in romantic relationships and/or potential relationships with your future children.

“To fully experience your Heavenly Father you are going to have to forgive your Earthly Father.”

Pastor Mike Todd

Remember that touching episode on the TV show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” when Will was battling issues of abandonment from his father?

Do you see how that pain build up came to a head when he was yet again let down by someone who was supposed to be there for him?

To hold unforgiveness in your heart is to choose to continue to let the pain eat away at your soul until there is nothing left.

Remember, this pain affects every area of your life and could potentially transfer to your children whether you realize it or not.

Forgive your father, as our Father in heaven forgave us.
