The drawn-out election had the country and world’s attention. The dust is still settling and no matter if your candidate won or not, we should unite and not divide. It is easy to pick sides in politics, but we must find common ground. Some have agreed to disagree on many political views but we should choose to live as God has instructed us to, even in politics.

“You should love thy neighbor, as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39 ESV)

God tells us to love our neighbors. It doesn’t contain stipulations. Such as your like-minded neighbor, or the one that shared your same political views. We give ourselves permission to be different and hold strong to our opinions, yet we do not offer that same grace to others. By now your social media feed has been flooded with campaign related posts. Some in favor of the President- Elect, and others not so much. You may have just learned that some of your friends have differing views, and that’s ok. Trust and believe you can still love them, as God wants us to do.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12 ESV)

However, you view the outcome of the election, rest assured that the President of the United States isn’t the highest power. God will forever reign as the leader of our country and this world. Many prayed for this election and even for the candidates. Continue to do so, the emotions are running high but find comfort in knowing whom is truly in control, our Heavenly Father.

“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.” (Romans 12:16 ESV)

We must not forget that we occupy this world together. We can check a different party on our ballots and still coexist. We are no better than the next man, so creating supremacy and division is futile and not in alignment with God’s word.

As we take a breather from this election and reflect on what has transpired during the campaign season, cast any worries unto God. Topics continue to be debated, and those from contrasting viewpoints try and articulate why their viewpoint is right. You may find yourself in an unavoidable situation, just make sure you are slow to anger and represent God with your words and actions.
