F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby has been a part of a lot of childhood memories. The Great Gatsby is currently being adapted into a miniseries titled Gatsby. Fitzgerald’s great-granddaughter, Blake Hazard, will also be serving as a producer.

A+E Studios and ITV Studios America will be collaborating on the TV miniseries along with Vikings creator, Michael Hirst. Hirst will be writing and executive producing the series where he claims to have “reimagined” Gatsby and wanting the series to be much different from Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 adaptation.

Hirst plans to explore “New York’s Black community in the 1920s as well as the musical subculture” by “digging deeper into the hidden lives of its characters through the modern lens of a fractured American Dream.”

Ultimately, Hirst plans to stay true to Fitzgerald’s goal in the original novel while building on the legacy with a modernized vision that will reflect America back then and today including the  exploration of female characters. The series wants to focus on gender, race, and sexual orientation and the reality of the American Dream during the early 1900s.

Gatsby series has reportedly been in the works for at least three years. The series was reportedly in development at Apple but it is currently unknown what network or streaming service it will be a part of.

As of now the production is still searching for a director. The Great Gatsby we all know will expand in this new series.
