The 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have announced their nominees for the newest inductees. Sixteen artists and groups ranging from the king of hip hop Jay-Z, to the inspirational women such as girl group The Go-Go’s, and of course the queen of rock and roll herself Tina Turner.

This year’s nominees also include Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, Mary J. Blige, Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren and Dionne Warwick.

“This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates, these nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”said John Sykes, Chairman of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Six of the nominees for this class are women, considering the backlash that was given when the 2020 class only included three women, but only the late Whitney Huston was inducted. Some of the women nominees have already been honored: Carole King alongside Gerry Goffin as a non-performer in 1990, Tina and Ike Turner in 1991. Today, women make up about 8% of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. While there are an overflow of entitled women such as Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Grace Jones, Roberta Flack, The Chicks and Kylie Minogue, to name a few, have yet to be nominated.

The inductees for the 2021 class will be announced in May, and the ceremony will take place in the fall in Cleveland, OH.
