It’s official! 2X All-Star Center Andre Drummond is headed to La La Land. On Sunday, the former Cleveland Cavalier officially signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, after clearing waivers at 5 PM EST.

Last Friday, the 6’10, 280-pound big-man agreed to a contract buyout with the Cavaliers, who were unable to secure a trade partner that would agree to a deal for him. Drummond, 27, was averaging 17.5 PPG and 13.5 RPG for the Cavaliers this season and was owed $28.75 million prior to the buyout.

The Cavaliers recently acquired the 22-year-old rising center, Jarrett Allen, calling him “the franchise’s long-term starting center,” essentially guaranteeing Drummond’s departure.

For the Lakers, this is a major move to bolster their roster immediately. Due to the current absences of Lebron James and Anthony Davis due to their injuries.

Organizations such as the Brooklyn Nets and the Denver Nuggets are stockpiling star-level talent for the playoffs, Drummond’s acquisition will be key to helping Los Angeles repeat as champions. In a statement released by the team, Rob Pelinka, Lakers General Manager, commented:

“Andre Drummond gives us powerful, anchor-point skills on both ends of the court. We feel extremely fortunate to add a player of his caliber and magnitude to our core group at this stage of our journey to defend the NBA title.”

In this tweeted video from the Lakers, Drummond stated he was “excited” to be a part of the team and looked forward to competing for a championship.
