Barack Obama is among the first round of winners for the 52nd NAACP Image Awards

The NAACP Image Pre-Awards took place for the non-televised award categories in Beverly Hills.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards is a night where individuals are honored for their outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature. 

The ceremony gives everyone a platform to showcase how they have made a difference in their field. 

The first round of winners consisted of  President Barack Obama for Outstanding Literary Work – Nonfiction category, Walter Mosely for Outstanding Literary Work – Fiction, “John Lewis: Good Trouble” for Outstanding Documentary (Film), and as previously announced Reverend Dr. Wendell Anthony for Activist Of The Year and Madison Potts for Youth Activist Of The Year.

There were appearances from Daymond John, Madalen Mills, Terrence Terrell, Tonya Boyd Cannon, and Zul-Qarnain. 

The week-long 52nd NAACP Image Awards Virtual Experience from March 22 to 26 will lead up to the live ceremony Saturday. Each day in between, the Image Awards will reveal winners from the non-televised award categories.

The 52nd annual awards ceremony will premiere on March 27 with a live simulcast across ViacomCBS Networks which will include BET, CBS, MTV, VH1, MTV2, BET HER and LOGO.
