HBCUs are known for many things their excellence in education, the rich history that has shown perseverance over the years, and the students that excel in and out of school. Nike along with other companies have to come recognize the power and caliber of the students at HBCUs. In October of 2020 Nike launched a new initiative of its kind at Nike called “Yardrunners.”

Nike is offering fan gear at select stores and an HBCU alum initiated and led platform “Yardrunner’s Series,” that showcases the cultural contributions of HBCU students nationwide.

Nike has announced a partnership with Florida A&M University and will be their supplier of gear for uniforms, apparel and footwear. This is a continuation of a 20 year partnership. The company has plans to only further diversify and continue their initiatives that will lead to full implementation by 2025, by allotting $10 million purposefully for scholarships and academic partnerships specifically for HBCU students and Hispanic-serving institutions.

The Fall 2021 “Yardrunners,” recognizes 16 former HBCU athletes that are exceling in and out of their sport. The athletes come from a variety of sports from golf to equestrian and everything in between.

Grab your fan gear today on Nike’s site and in select stores. Also check out and be inspired by the 2021 “Yardrunners.”
