A social media influencer from Brideport, Connecticut was found dead in her apartment on December 12, 2021.

According to NBC, Lauren Smith-Fields’ body was found by Matthew LaFountain, a 37-year-old white man.

Smith-Fields met LaFountain on the dating app, Bumble, only three days before her death.

In the past couple of weeks, other social media influencers and social outlets such as Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter have brought her case to the attention of the public.

Her case has caused an uproar on social media. Recently, celebrity Cardi B has shared her thoughts in regards to Smith-Fields death.

“This is sooo scary!!!” the rapper tweeted. “Justice for Lauren.Connecticut you have failed that young lady!!!”

Smith-Fields’ parents claim the issue with this case is that police failed to collect key evidence from her apartment. Smith-Fields’ family found bloody bedsheets, a used condom, and a sedative pill at the crime scene.

According to WTNH, police refused to investigate the man who was with Lauren when she died.  He informed the police that “blood was coming out her right nostril,” in the police report.

The lack of investigating that took place was also as Smith-Fields’ parents described,  a “case of negligence.”

On Monday, January 24, The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced Smith-Fields’ cause of death. She overdosed on fentanyl mixed with prescription drugs, and alcohol, says WTNH.

Smith-Fields’ father, Everett Smith, told WTNH that the man who was with his daughter during her death “was a nice guy, there was no need to investigate.”

A criminal investigation has been opened to find out what truly happened to the happy, healthy, 23-year-old, Black woman that did not receive a fair investigation initially after her death.
