A woman was killed and four others were injured inside a Days Inn last Thursday when shots erupted during a party.

Police officers were called to the hotel located at 4400 Connecticut Ave NW in the Van Ness neighborhood around 3:30 am for reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, police found two women shot, one in the lobby and the other in the room.

Two of the males that were shot went to the hospital on their own. Another woman suffered from a gunshot wound but it was not life-threatening, according to D.C. Chief of Pollice Robert Contee.

Contee believes that there was an exchange of gunfire between several people.

After a thorough investigation, police also confirmed that a handgun was found on the scene. Officers have identified all of the people involved and concluded that there is no immediate threat.

“They came into the District of Columbia, possibly from Maryland, they rented a room, it may have been some kind of, just, social interaction going on, and one thing led to another that resulted in this shooting,” Contee told News 4

The management of Days Inn released a statement saying, “The Metropolitan Police Department contacted us immediately and have begun their investigation. Since the incident is an active investigation, we are asking that any related questions be directed to the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved.”

The woman who was killed is the 12th person to die by homicide in D.C. this year. Police have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
