Jussie Smollet has been sentenced to 150 days in Cook County jail and was also ordered to pay more than $120,000 in restitution to the city of Chicago.

The actor was also sentenced to 30 months of felony probation and was fined $25,000, according to Chicago 5

In January of 2019, Smollett reported to police that he had been the victim of a hate crime. Some say he faked the crime in order to gain attention.

“If I did this, then it means that I stuck my fist in the fears of Black Americans in this country for 400 years and the fears of the LGBTQ community. Your honor, I respect you, and I respect the jury, but I did not do this, and I am not suicidal. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself! And you must all know that!” said Smollett.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Smollett is separated from others in his own cell. They have also informed the public that his cell is constantly monitored by security cameras, as well as an officer wearing a body cam to ensure Smollett is under direct observation at all times.
