17-year-old student-athlete Mikey Williams has made a historic deal with Puma making him the first American high school basketball player to sign a multi-year sneaker deal with a global footwear company.

“I am excited to join the Puma family this early in my basketball journey,” Williams said in a written statement. “Puma really understands how to mix hoops and culture, two things I am passionate about.”

Williams attends Vertical Academy located in Charlotte, North Carolina where he is a combo guard and has been ranked as the 11th-best prospect in his high school class by ESPN.

The top ranked high schooler will be joining a roster of 25 athletes including WNBA headliners Breanna Stewart and Skylar Diggins-Smith, along with NBA players such as LaMelo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Deandre Ayton.

The young student-athlete has been making money moves since the NIL rules were in place. A few months ago in July, he signed a deal with Excel Sports Management, making him the first prep basketball player to partner with an agency to pursue NIL deals.

The 6-foot-3 guard is one of the top prospects and will be eligible for the NBA Draft soon in 2024 where he is seen as a legitimate prospect in the 2023 high school class.
