Nas joins Google to invest $20 million in gaming company, Carry1st

Rapper Nas has partnered up with search engine giant Google, and other investors such as American venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and “League of Legends” developer Riot Games came together to raise $20 million for gaming company Carry1st.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, as part of Andreessen Horowitz’s first investment in a company headquartered in Africa, partners David Haber and Jonathan Lai will join the board of Cape Town, South Africa-based Carry1st.
The South African company is projected to see a 96% monthly revenue growth, according to The Source.
Founded in 2018, Carry1st profitably serves their consumers where they deliver interactive apps for millions of people in Africa. The company is Africa’s #1 mobile publisher that has produced games including ‘SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off’ from studio Tilting Point.
“In 2021, we launched multiple games and digital commerce solutions, achieving really strong growth. Together we can accelerate this growth and achieve our goal of becoming the leading consumer internet company in the region,” Carry1st co-founder and CEO, Cordel Robbin-Coker expressed excitement over the investment deal in a statement with Yahoo News.
The initial investment will be utilized to expand Carry1st’s content portfolio and product/engineering teams to grow a new user base. While also moving into game co-development to work with leading game studios on original concepts and developing the infrastructure to support play-to-earn gaming.
