Last Saturday, independent artist, Po Lambeau, orchestrated and hosted his third fashion show for his clothing line “Cairo Casanova.” The event was also a celebration of his birthday and the release of his new album “Sixa Deluxe.”

Before the show, we got to sit down with him for a quick interview. He shared the news on his upcoming projects, what inspired his music and clothing, how he got started, and advice for people who want to pursue careers in the entertainment industry.

Although his career has taken off in Los Angeles, California, Po Lambeau was born and raised in Philadelphia, which is where his career began. His inspiration stems from his grandmother.

“She passed away in a car accident in Egypt when she was on vacation when I was about 11 years old. She also taught me how to write poetry, which I then turned into music. But I’ve been rapping since I was 5, and I’ve been making clothes since I was 13. I started Cairo Casanova when I was 15. So this is year 9 right now,” said Po Lambeau.

The name Po Lambeau derives from the word poetry combined with Lambeau in reference to the Lambeau Leap from the Packers’ football team. His name represents life being a poetry celebration.

Po Lambeau, also known as Po, attributes his success to the community and family. A strong network is important to him and his endeavors.

He learned everything he knows through, “Just being a little kid on the block growing up.”

How do you feel moving into your third collection, and your third fashion show?

I feel great. This is my third fashion show. I just had my first billboard in LA put up this week. The deluxe version of my album is out. I had a little mishap with my second shoe being released. I am not going to get to show the world yet. And then the magazine comes out next week because my clothes are going to be in stores.

What stores can we find you in?

It’s a store that I actually interned at. It’s called “The Kut.” It’s located in Downtown Los Angeles. You can go there, and they will have an entire display of Cairo Casanova in all sizes. It will be held on January 29th.

What inspired your new collection and the album?

Music is always my number one, and I’m always driven to create more music. That’s just how I express myself. You know how every day you wake up, brush your teeth, eat, do whatever you do: I wake up and go straight into my at-home studio space because I have to record. I have that hunger to continue to make more music.

But the inspiration behind the album Sixa, is to talk about myself and all of the people who I’ve lost on my journey. And how growing up in my community as a child got me to where I am today. So I’ve learned everything that I do just by being a little kid on the block growing up. And I always had nice clothes. I always made sure I had the drip!

What challenges did you face trying to put the show, album and the clothing line out?

The clothes were originally stolen in October, which completely froze over everything. I had to recuperate the money for the clothes you’re going to see. It’s just a lot that goes into it. You have to get the venue, the lights guy, the stage guy, and the sound guy, and the clothes guy, and the guy for this, and the guy for that.

I’m just so appreciative because I’m from Philadelphia. People from Philly don’t even get to do this. I’ve got like two of my homies here from Philly right now, people that I grew up with.

And you know, I’m happy to be back with my friends and family, and just continue to showcase my talent and what I’m able to do. And that you don’t really need someone to do all of the things that you may be passionate about in your life. You just gotta go full force.

So what advice would you give someone who is trying to do exactly what you’re doing right now? Or just trying to pursue a career in fashion, in entertainment or music?

Well, the music game is a little different and it’s kind of based on popularity now. But with clothing, if you got some hot shit it’s just gonna stick. A lot of my inspirations growing up fashion-wise, were Kanye, Virgil, Pharell, and Lil Wayne just to name a few.

But I genuinely love what I do, and the advice that I would give somebody is just to network as much as you can. Because everything I’ve done in LA is all because I’ve created a network of hardworking strong people, and it’s gotten me far, and it’s continuing to get me to where I want to be in life right now.

Having this conversation with Po was eye-opening and inspiring. His drive, passion, and the hustle that he embodies are rare to see in this generation. It’s good to see an artist who turns their challenges, and real-life experiences into something beautiful for people to enjoy. He’s definitely one to watch out for! Based on his stage presence, the quality of his music, his clothing, the hustle, and his raw personality, his career will have longevity.

If you want to see more from Po Lambeau you can follow him and his clothing line on Instagram, @polambeau and @cairo.casanova.

His clothing and magazine are set to debut in stores on Saturday, February 4th in Downtown Los Angeles at The Kut. Come check him out if you are in LA!
