Callie Brownson, Browns’ chief of staff, Jennifer King, Washington’s full-year coach intern, and Sarah Thomas, NFL full-time official, contributed to one of NFL’s Sunday night historic moments in a game between the Browns versus Washington.

Jennifer King was a seven time All-American quarterback and receiver for the Carolina Phoenix of the Women’s Football Alliance from 2006-2017. Jennifer followed coach Ron Rivera to Washington and now Jennifer is the first black woman in league history to assist coaching.

Callie Brownson’s first full-time coach position was at college football’s Division I level in 2018. She later ended up with an internship in 2019 for the Buffalo Bills. Callie also played for the Women’s Football Alliance as free safety and running back from 2010 to 2017 where her team brought home two national championships.

Sarah Thomas is a veteran who previously made history several times prior as the first woman to officiate a college bowl game and the first female official in the NFL in 2015. Sarah began officiating youth and high school football games and was later hired by Conference USA in 2007.

The Browns defeated Washington 34-20 giving the Browns another reason to celebrate Sunday.

Women continue to break barriers and change the narrative in a “man’s world”. It is safe to say that the future is here for women progressing in sports.
