The one stop shop will soon be no more. Walking into J.C Penny and making a beeline to Sephora will soon be a thing of the past. The two companies merged in 2006. However, the pandemic hit all retail stores hard including J.C. Penny causing them to file for bankruptcy. The popular clothing store was forced to close 150 stores but they are developing a plan to exit bankruptcy.

As the future of J.C. Penny is still uncertain, Sephora filed to exit their contract with the retail store. Their contract will end in 2023. Sephora is wasting no time moving on and has now partnered with Kohl’s and will be in 850 of their retail stores.

J.C. Penny also has some tricks up their sleeves as well, they have announced that they will be developing their own beauty concept. They made a statement saying, “a new, inclusive beauty concept that offers our customers a wide array of product. This endeavor will advance our plan for renewal to offer compelling merchandise, drive traffic and deliver an engaging experience for all customers. We look forward to unveiling this new concept — which will be enhanced by our salon offerings to provide an improved beauty experience.”

Breaking up is hard to do, even for companies, but it’s great to see them moving forward. This is a trend that many consumers are seeing. Ulta just recently announced they will be joining Target. Target will now be a quadruple threat as they have partnered with Starbucks, CVS, and now Ulta.

Rest easy as you still have time to visit Sephora as it will still call J.C. Penny home until 2023. However, the online partnership of Sephora and Kohl’s will be open for shoppers in 2021.
