Rae Sremmurd’s half-brother, Jamil “Michael” Sullivan, has been charged with first-degree murder. Sullivan allegedly killed his father Floyd Sullivan.

Floyd, the step-father of Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, was shot and killed in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 4. Sullivan, 20, was arrested on January 7, and currently has a $100,000 bond amount set.

The motive behind Floyd’s murder is still unclear, but the mother of Rae Sremmurd and Sullivan, Bernadette Walker, spoke to People Magazine and offered insight into her son’s mental health.

“I don’t want to speculate — it could’ve happened to anybody because Michael really didn’t need a rhyme or reason to do anything,” she said. “He was aggressive when he was off his meds, so it could’ve been as simple as asking him to do something that could’ve set him off.”

According to Walker, Sullivan suffers from schizoaffective disorder, a mental health disorder with symptoms that include hallucinations, mood swings, and depression. His issues with his mother and her fiance eventually led to him moving in with his father Floyd, who Bernedette had hoped “would get through to him.”

Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi have not publicly spoken on the situation as of now, although, Swae Lee tweeted broken-heart emojis on January 7.

Sullivan was reportedly an influential figure in the duo’s lives, helping raise them when they were younger.

Sullivan faces life in prison if convicted. No date has been set for his trial.
