The pandemic just beginning, and the world all stopped, we watched the horrendous act of former Police Officer, Derek Chauvin as he murdered George Floyd in Minnesota, under the weight of his knee.

We rioted, we grieved, we demanded change, and we waited. A long grueling trial that replayed a nightmare we wished was not a reality. The wound still fresh we listened to three weeks of witnesses and statements and finally April 20th, 2021 a verdict was reached.

Chauvin was charged with second- degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. The jurors reached a unanimous verdict finding Chauvin to be guilty of all accounts.

This is a conclusion most have hoped for but unsure if it would come. This is a different conclusion than seen in other police brutality cases of this magnitude. Sadly another trial is set to begin in response to the murder of Dante Wright by former Police Officer Kimberly Ann Porter. That occurred miles away from the site where George Floyd was killed.

The sentencing process lies ahead, the estimated time is within two months. Chauvin will be held in custody until sentencing.
