It looks like rapper Ja Rule won’t be singing “Ain’t it Funny” anytime soon; as of now, things are no joking matter. Ja, real name Jeffrey Atkins, and his wife Aisha Atkins have been sued by the IRS for an alleged $3.1 million dollars federal tax debt!

According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline, the Atkins have refused to pay their taxes owed for the years 2005-2010 and 2012-2017, totaling exactly $3,139,237.76.

Unfortunately for Ja Rule, this isn’t the first instance of tax issues. Back in July 2011, the former Murder Inc. star was sentenced to 28 months in jail for failing to pay taxes on more than $3 million dollars in income between 2004 and 2006. As a result, he agreed to pay a settlement of $1.1 million dollars in back taxes. In May 2013, he was released from prison after serving his time concurrently with his 2-year sentence for illegal gun possession.

In response to the 2011 sentencing, Ja Rule commented:

I had some issues when the whole Murder Inc. thing went down with my accountant, and she had some federal issues with the boys herself for doing some things, so I fell into a few issues there, but it’s not an issue like that. That’s being taken care of.

Ja Rule hasn’t filed a response to this most recent lawsuit but has reportedly hired his long-time attorney Stacy Richman.
