The BET Hip Hop Awards 2021 was a successful showcase of the genre’s artists and culture. Here is a recap of some of the biggest winners and performances:

Biggest Winners:

Nelly: The St. Louis legend received the prestigious “I AM HIP HOP” award, joining the likes of Ice Cube, Lil Kim, and KRS-One. After a thoughtful speech in which he described his idolization of LL Cool J, he hit the stage for this throwback performance:

Tyler, the Creator: The unique, strange yet brilliant artist was honored with the Cultural Influence Award! He gave a well-received speech thanking the likes of Andre 3000, Missy Elliot, and Q-Tip for the foundation they laid for him.

Megan Thee Stallion/Cardi B: The “WAP” duo won a couple of awards, specifically “Best Collaboration” and “Song of the Year.” The ladies have been holding Hip Hop down these past few years!

Lil Baby: Atlanta’s own “Hero” continued to “go hard” in 2021. He was recognized as the “Hip Hop Artist of the Year” as well as the “Best Duo/Group” alongside Lil Durk.

85 South Show: Comedians DC Young Fly, Chico Bean, and Karlous Miller were most definitely a highlight of the entire event. They brought “The Trap” to the awards and were the perfect choice as hosts. The trio even showed love to the cult classic film “Belly,” with a memorable entrance.

Outside of the award winners, the show featured performances from Big Latto, Lil Jon, Paul Wall, Young Thug, and Gunna. Notable cypher performers included D Smoke, Tierra Whack, Fivio Foreign, Rico Nasty, and Smino.
