Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street signs deal to produce scripted podcast series

Kerry Washington’s production company Simpson Street announced three scripted series in collaboration with Audible as part of Audible’s Original productions.

The first project entitled Prophecy, coming from the deal will star Washington and release in 2022. Prophecy‘s eight episodes follows “a series of unexplainable events happens simultaneously around the world,” 

Wasington will play a hydrologist named Virginia alongside a British zoo veterinarian and commercial diver that fights for survival and soon realizes connection in this contemporary, Biblical reimagining of the Virgin Mary, Daniel in the Lions’ Den, and Jonah and the Whale.

“Our focus at Simpson Street is to weave together narratives that honor our unique differences while connecting us through shared humanity,” Washington shared in a statement with Yahoo News. “Expanding into the podcast space, especially with Audible, is a phenomenal opportunity to engage in storytelling across multiple mediums. We could not be more excited!”

The second series is a romantic comedy titled “Between Me and You” that’s adapted from the novel created by Allison Winn Scotch and Pete Chiarelli

“The Last Black Queen” is the third series created by Darnell Brown. The series focuses on the life of a character named Maya Foster who is a middle-aged Black woman who ignores her own desires to lead a “normal” life but later a mysterious and seductive young woman by the name of Aimé will awaken her sexual desire.

Washington and Simpson Street will executive produce all three series exclusively for the platform while joining the Audible catalog.
