Last Saturday, Chicago rapper Lil Durk brought country singer Morgan Wallen on stage to sing their hit song, “Broadway Girls,”  at the MLK Freedom Fest. Artists such as Rod Wave, Latto, and Moneybag Yo also performed at the festival.

According to Rolling Stone, Wallen has been in the hot seat due to a video of him using the N-word. The video hit the internet in February of last year and many fans were not happy.

Following the incident, he was removed from his contract with his label, Big Loud. He was also removed from playlists on Spotify, Apple, and multiple radio stations across the country.

Wallen told the New York Times, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

According to Rolling Stone, before Lil Durk called Wallen on to the stage he described him saying he is “genuine at heart.”

In January, Lil Durk denied viewing Wallen as a racist after the situation occurred.

He told TMZ, “Nah, he ain’t no racist, that’s my boy.”

He also mentioned that he and Wallen had a conversation following the incident behind closed doors.
