Thousands of African students have been stuck in Ukraine due to Poland border guards reportedly rejecting them from leaving because of their skin color.

Africans have been blocked from riding trains and crossing borders in an attempt to flee to a safe place. The hashtag #AfricansInUkraine has been circulating on Twitter since Feb.26.

There is also footage of African families being left stranded at the train stations.

On Feb.24, Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama released a video on Twitter explaining when he would assist the evacuation of the trapped individuals.

Thousands of African students travel to Ukraine to study technical fields, engineering and medicine at affordable prices but as Russia’s invasion continues to take place, the students are trying to leave for their safety.

According to data, Morocco, Egypt and Nigeria are in the top ten countries with students based in Ukraine.

The Russian Ukraine invasion began on Feb.24, launching missiles from three fronts and sending in troops to attack the nation.
