Many people have heard these before but if you’re new to this, let me break it down. The fruit of the spirit is more of a children’s lesson but it’s still important for adults to learn that the fruits can still apply in life today.

Galatians 5:22-23 Says, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, Forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such a thing there is no law. When you choose to be saved those 9 attributes go with you, walk with you through life and guide you in a certain direction. The fruits represent you living according to the holy spirit. Now let’s break them down on today’s terms.

Love is patient love is kind. The greatest love that we receive is from our God. Biblical love is a choice not a feeling. You choose to love when you become saved. Today the world tries to tell you what love is and what love feels like. Only you can make that choice and know what real love is.

Joy in  Greek means “gladness and delight.” Joy can sometimes be mistaken or conjoined with love. When you are in love you are happy but they are two different things. One is nothing without the other. Being delighted in life with no love in your heart it’s just not God’s way.

Peace is an important attribute. John 14:27 says, “But for those who have the spirit of peace within us, the peace of Christ is possible no matter the circumstances.” The world doesn’t offer much peace, just look around. The world cannot offer peace because they do not know the One who is peace.

A synonym for Forbearance is patience. When you have patience your spirit will have patience too. The holy spirit is a guide down on earth here to help you and show other people the Christ in you. This world is filled with impatient people who want things done in their time. As Christians we know that only God knows when the right time actually is.

kindness

Kindness and goodness are two that are closely together. The act of kindness is when you do good for others. Goodness is a feeling between God and your spirit. The actions of both are God’s ways of perfect will.

Faithfulness is one that will get tested in the world. People will really test you to see if you’re a believer or not. Being faithful means being reliable or trustworthy. Our reliability as Christians should be to our savior who redeemed us. When you are saved your faithfulness should be towards our creator. If you love God like he loves you, you will trust and believe him throughout life.

Gentleness is grace from the soul. In other words having meekness as a person in the world you have a divinely-balanced virtue that can only operate through faith. As you grow up the world will try to strip you of your gentleness. They view it as weak or easy going. Ever heard the saying, “Don’t take my kindness for weakness.” Gentleness is a key ingredient in unity and peace with the body of Christ.

Self-control is an important attribute that God set into play. When your spiritual man is lined up with self-control it is a game changer. You will know what you can handle and what is just not for you. Learning to tell your flesh no is one of the hardest things to overcome but when you do God will be pleased. He’ll bless your fruit to multiply and have a beautiful harvest.
