Self-care can be done in a variety of ways. It can be watching your favorite movie, retail therapy, or even accentuating your beauty with makeup. Selena Gomez, actress, singer, and owner of Rare Beauty is addressing mental health within her beauty company. Since May is mental health awareness month, Gomez has launched ‘Mental Health 101.’

Mental health has been a trending topic more in the last couple of years. Celebrities such as Michael Phelps, Demi Lovato, Taraji P. Henson and more have opened up about their mental health. According to the CDC in the Gen Z community, suicide is the leading cause of death. This chilling statistic inspired Gomez to launch her latest mental health campaign.

In an interview with Forbes, Selena stated, “I wish I learned about mental health the way I learned about other subjects growing up. Every young person deserves to learn about their mental health at a young age so they’re equipped to ask questions, have access to resources, and empower themselves.”

Rare Beauty has partnered with NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) to provide resources and education focused on all areas of mental health. The Rare Impact fund, a foundation started by Gomez, will be matching donations up to $200,000.

You can check out the mental health focused portion of the Rare Beauty site to access helpful resources and to contribute to the cause.

Remember if you or someone you know are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone and your do not have to battle alone.
