The Atlanta Hawks President of Basketball Operations Travis Schlenk announced that the franchise will be moving Nate McMillan from an interim to the permanent head coach.

McMillan agreed to a four-year contract that didn’t reveal the terms of the agreement in order to remain with the Hawks.

Although the Hawks lost to the Milwaukee Bucks during the Eastern Conference Finals, the Hawks turned their season around with an astonishing win. As interim head coach McMillan finished the 2020-2021 season with 27-11, which earned them the fifth seed in the East.

Schlenk chose McMillan to replace former Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce at the beginning of March. When the Hawks parted ways with Lloyd, the team had a 14-20 record and sat near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

McMillan has committed 16 years as an NBA head coach that allowed him to be with the Seattle SuperSonics for five years, the Portland Trail Blazers for seven and the Indiana Pacers for four years.

The 56-year-old McMillan has a 688-599 career record in the regular season as a head coach in the NBA.Lets see what McMillan can further bring to the Atlanta Hawks with the four years he has.
