Hair is a form of self-expression, whether you grew it or you purchased it, it says magnitudes about who you are as a person. Black hair in particular is rooted in history and rich culture. There are distinct styles and traditions that is woven yet braided into Black history. A new series that will shed light on this very intricate topic of Black hair is being brought to light by two icons, Tracee Ellis Ross and Oprah Winfrey.

Ellis Ross literally gets it from her mama, the living legend Diana Ross passed her lovely iconic hair down to her daughter. Ellis Ross is also the founder of Pattern a natural hair care line, so she knows her fair share about hair. Winfrey’s network OWN will partner with Hulu in a first ever partnership of its kind to present, “The Hair Tales.”

The series will be narrated and well versed in topics that focus on personal experiences as well as societal and historical aspects.

Ellis Ross stated in an interview,

This series is about identity, culture and legacy, beauty, strength and joy. Hair is a portal into the souls of Black women, it drives straight to the center of who we are. Our goal is to share this vibrant community, where we hold a sacred space for each other. Like many women, I can trace my own journey to self-acceptance through my hair. This series is personal and universal, American and global. It is a love letter to Black women.

The show concept was created by producer Michaela Angela Davis. “The Hair Tales,” will be available on Hulu through the new ONYX collection as well as on cable through OWN.
