Highlights of the 2022 BET Awards

This year’s BET Awards took the world by storm with its captivating energy hosted by the Golden Globe winner, actress, writer, and director, Taraji P. Henson.

The awards show was held in Microsoft Theater located in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, June 26.

Lizzo kicked the show off with a dazzling performance of “About Damn Time,” featuring her beloved flute. 

According to BET, this year’s nominees represent “an abundance of creative expression and Black excellence across music, television, film, and sports.”

Doja Cat dominated this year with six award nominations in categories such as Best Female R&B/ Pop Artist, Best Collaboration for her song “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA, best female Hip-Hop Artist, and more.

Here are some more awards from the night:

  • Jasmine Sullivan won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist
  • The Best Collaboration award was presented to “Essence” Wizkid ft. Justin Beirber and Tems.
  • The Best Female Hip-Hop artist was awarded to Megan Thee Stallion and the Best Male Hip-Hop artist went to Kendrick Lamar.

Sean “Diddy” Combs was the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented to him by Babyface and his friend, Kanye West, made a surprise appearance where he paid respect to all that Diddy has done to mold him into the superstar he is today. 

“This man has been through [and] survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so we can be standing … he broke down so many doors of classism, taste, swag. Puff, if I never told you I love you, you’re my brother,” said West.

The iconic performance that paid homage to the “King of Bad Boy” included a performance by Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Nas, Lil’ Kim, Busta Rhymes, Faith Evans, Bryson Tiller, Jadakiss, and more.

This year’s BET Award show was definitely a high-energy show from start to finish.
