The drive for inclusion has been picking up momentum in all industries. The fashion industry is yet another place that has lacked diversity. However, fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger is seeking to diversify the fashion world.

Hilfiger has had to work long and hard to improve his relationship with people of color after a rumor almost ruined his reputation. In 1996, the rumor spread like wildfire that Hilfiger didn’t make his clothing for people of color and didn’t want them worn by people of color. Hilfiger has been questioned on this topic a countless amount of times. In summary he denied ever saying that and has hoped that people would believe him over rumors. Despite what may or may not have been said in a new climate of social and racial awareness, Hilfiger is using his seniority to help the upcoming designers of color.

Hilfiger is set to have his third ‘Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Show,’ and is now accepting applications. It is a global program to support start-up businesses that make a positive social change. Hilfiger explained, “This year, we want to showcase an even more diverse range of perspectives, ideas and communities by supporting BIPOC entrepreneurs.  We have a responsibility to drive change across the fashion landscape, and I am honored to further our commitment to inclusivity and equal representation through the upcoming Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Frontier Challenge.”

Those that are accepted will receive coaching and training. So put down your sewing needles and thread and go apply. If you want to learn more about how to apply click here for more information.
