The year is coming to an end, and beauty companies are producing more products than ever. However, with sales plummeting in retail, why are there so many new beauty lines rolling out?

Recently, Gucci put out a collection for makeup foundation and Fenty Beauty added powder foundations. Even drugstore beauty companies like ‘Wet N Wild,’ are releasing lip products, though everyone is wearing masks, which would defeat the point of the lip product.

We have one question for the cosmetic companies, do your consumers still want to buy products though they don’t need them at the moment? Or are companies just trying to keep afloat?

Granted, there may be more online sales, though it is not enough to offset the overall sales. One recent study mentioned in McKinsey and Company stated, “While brick-and-mortar drugstores and mass-market and grocery stores remain open, their customer traffic and revenues have plummeted.”

With COVID-19 still affecting thousands, self-care products have been selling through the roof. Items like face masks, bath bombs, including candles, have barely stayed on the shelves.

Companies like Bath and Body Works and Lush Cosmetics have been continuously stocking their stores to keep up with the demand. Recently, Bath and Body Works had a candle day sale and customers were going crazy.

It seems like beauty companies are continuing to push out products as a result of plummeted sales, but will it be enough to keep afloat.
